After ten years working as an international school teacher, Elis worked as a senior educational therapist for four years at the Dyslexia Association of Singapore, where she became trained in the world-renowned Orton-Gillingham program. The Orton-Gillingham program involves preparing and implementing differentiated reading and writing activities using visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic approaches. Utilizing a wide range of tools, Elis assesses and enhances the learning and comprehension capabilities of students with reading and writing challenges, including students with dyslexia, in English, Mandarin, and Hokkien.

Elis’s depth of experience in international education has made her a highly compassionate educator: she sensitively caters to each child’s unique needs, listens effectively, provides individual and whole group support, integrates multicultural teaching units, and offers positive encouragement and reinforcement to keep students focused and motivated.

In her role as a learning support and dyslexia therapist at ELG, Elis works with families and schools to assess learning and related needs, advising parents and teachers on the best approaches and provisions to support the development and achievement of the child. She formulates and provides direct interventions, providing ongoing assessment of progress towards goals in academics, social-emotional development and behavior. Elis enjoys fostering and maintaining an open, communicative, and supportive learning environment to ensure that each child feels safe, capable and appropriately challenged.
