Hongsian earned a B.A. in occupational therapy from the National University of Malaysia (UKM), Kuala Lumpur, and is a member of the Malaysian Occupational Therapy Association (MOTA).

Hongsian has extensive hands-on experience in working with children with complex needs, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, global developmental delay, and cerebral palsy. During his studies at UKM, Hongsian worked in various government hospitals in Malaysia, gaining experience in pediatric, geriatric, neurology, orthopedic, psychiatric, and medical departments. He also participated in a one-month internship in Taichung Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan and attended an international exchange program in Chengdu, organized by West China Medical College of Sichuan University. After graduation, Hongsian worked at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore and the Loh Guan Lye Specialists Centre in Penang, in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

As an occupational therapist at ELG’s full-time program, Hongsian is responsible for evaluating and providing specific therapies, and supporting the program team to carry over the interventions into each child’s daily activities. He uses a holistic approach in planning customized interventions for each child and monitoring their developmental progress. Hongsian is passionate about supporting children to grow into functional, independent adults who are integrated into the community. He strives to be a light that brightens children’s futures, supporting them to live life to the fullest.
